Thermal Imaging identifies areas of excessive heat loss or heat gain in buildings, using a sophisticated infrared spectrum camera that "sees" emitted surface heat as various color shades in relation to surrounding areas. Poor or missing insulation in wall cavities, gaps in construction allowing cold or hot outside air to enter, wet insulation in a roof, and even hidden wood destroying insect infestations can often be rapidly identified through a thermal image scan. In most cases, the thermal image scan identifies hidden conditions that a visual inspection would not reveal, and can save the expense and inconvenience of tearing out construction materials in an often vain effort to find the source of a chronic water leak.
